VO BUSINESS CONSULTING
The business side of voice over,
looked at properly
Most VO businesses are built in stages. The craft comes first, and the systems, processes, and infrastructure tend to follow whenever there's time. Sometimes that works well, but sometimes the gap between the quality of the work and the quality of the business around it starts to cost you in ways that aren't always obvious.
These sessions are a practical, direct look at how your business is set up with the aim of making things simpler, more consistent, and less reliant on you keeping everything in your head.

"Where have you been? All systems are go!"
Ashley Turner, Voice Actor
I found the voice over world from a long career in technology consulting helping organisations of all sizes work out why their processes weren't running as well as they should, and building the systems to fix that. When I moved into voice acting, I applied the same approach to my own VO business, and it changed considerably how it ran.
These sessions draw on that experience directly. They're not generic business coaching. They're specific to the VO world, the tools available to it, and the particular ways creative freelance businesses tend to get tangled up.
WHAT WE WORK ON
Six areas worth looking at closely
Every VO business is different, and sessions can focus wherever is most useful. These are the areas that tend to come up most often and make the most practical difference.
01
Pricing & Quoting
How you arrive at a rate, how you account for usage and client types, and how you present and hold a number when a client pushes back. Fundamentals of how rates are applied specifically to your project mix.
04
New business pipeline
Where your work is coming from, what a direct outreach approach might look like for your niche, and how to stay in touch with prospects in a way that feels natural rather than forced.
02
Client process
From first enquiry to final invoice, build a journey that works for you and your clients right now, and where a bit of structure might make it smoother. Quote templates, scope confirmation, revision policies, follow-up sequences.
05
Brand & online presence
How your website, demo pages, and any social presence are working together — whether they clearly communicate what you do and make it easy for the right clients to find and book you.
03
Business systems & admin
CRM, invoicing, file delivery, scheduling, income tracking. What you have, what you're missing, and what's worth putting in place. Finding the right tools and getting them properly connected, rather than adding more things to manage.
06
Business review & planning
A clear picture of how the business is actually performing — income by client and genre, pipeline health, where your time is going — and a sensible approach to setting and working towards goals.
HOW IT WORKS

The goal is always to address what you actually need and give you something practical to do with it, not to extend the engagement for its own sake.

FULL SERVICE OPTION
If you'd prefer someone to do the setup work directly
Consulting sessions work well when you want to understand the options and make decisions yourself. If you'd rather hand the implementation over entirely and let me manage system setup, tool configuration, and integrations, that's available as a separate engagement. We'd start with a free 30-minute exploratory call to understand what you need, and I'd follow up with a proposal tailored to your situation.
BACKGROUND
Where the consulting background comes from
I started in IT in 1990 and spent the next three decades working inside and alongside some of the largest organisations in the world helping them understand why their processes weren't working as well as they should, and building the systems to improve them. That included everything from enterprise-scale deployments to helping launch a startup from the ground up, where I got to be involved in every part of what it takes to build a business from scratch.
When I moved into voice acting, I applied the same approach to my own VO business and figured out what was working, what wasn't, and what needed to be properly built rather than improvised. It made a significant difference to how the business ran, and it's the same thinking I bring to consulting sessions.
I use most of the same tools and systems I recommend. If I suggest a CRM, it's one I've evaluated and used myself. If I suggest a quoting process, it's one I've tested against real client situations. The advice is practical rather than theoretical because it comes from the same context you're working in.
